I have a show in Indiana tomorrow, so I'll be gone like 12 hours. I'm worried about my babies. I leave here around 12:30 or 1 pm and won't be back til 12:30 or 1 am. Will they die from not eating that long? Should I feed before I leave, turn the lights off, and turn them on and feed them when I get home? 3 week old bettas, 1 week out of mouth red zebra are the ones i'm most concerned over. The others are more than a month old.

Well, despite no one having any advice, the fish made it ok. I can't see where I've lost even one. They were very sluggish and dark colored when I got home.

Sorry angel, most can make it a couple days easy. I would have answered but I have been setting up a new system all day. If it is just a 12 hour thing and you are worried about it, slightly overfeed and do a water change when you get home. Bigger fish can go a week easy.

I did get ur pm just before I left, Jon. Thanks for that. I guessed on the lights and turned them off. It was very stressing having to leave them that long.

That's ok Joe. At least they're all fine. I'm still a newb at this. I don't know what to do in all situations. It bites. When we passed by your exit we threatened to crash on your floor. We were beat! It was like 2:30 am when we got home.

My fish have gone a week without eating before, no problems. That wouldn't work with babies of course, but older juvies to adults it's fine. I've had baby fish at work before, and they usually only get fed once each weekend, normally Sunday morning. If I happen to come into work on Saturday, then I'll feed them the extra feeding. I've been keeping fish at work for years, and they have always been my best looking/healthiest fish I have. It's easy to throw in extra water changes and care when the tanks are right next to your desk. I have a sink in my office as well which makes it easy.
