Crawfish are mean! I wouldn't put it past him! But if he crawls up a lot maybe he is around somewhere.

You can cycle it automatically if you put water, substrate, and use a little of the filter material out of your other tank. No waiting or cycling. I just wouldn't overload it too fast. All I do is move a used sponge filter, use a little old water and add fish.

Substrate is what you use for the bottom of the tank. Gravel, sand, coral, etc. I always try to move either some of that or maybe a rock or two or some other toys from an established tank and a sponge out of a tank that's established, like Jon says. The cycle is too traumatic to go through--for me!! hahaha

my eels try to jump out all the time..especially the dinosaur eel...he hangs on the tube from the canister filter and tried to make an escape....i have those plastic thingys that close the gap from the canopy so he cant get out ....youd think hed quit trying since i put him in a bigger tank but he still hangs on the tube and tries to escape anyways..i prepare myself every morning to find a eel on the floor when i go to feed them...he hasnt gottn out yet..(knock on wood)

Our local PetSmart has dinosaur eels. I think they're called dinosaur bichir. I'd think they have them at other ones too, then, since they get their shipments from the same place.
