So today I went out and bought a python, and its freaking awesome. I don't know how I went so long filling up one 5 gallon bucket at a time to take water out, and to put water back in. If you do not have one of these, check 'em out!
Anywho... I was just wondering; when you all do water changes do you shut everything off when your changing water, or just turn heaters off? I kinda change up what I do every time to see what works... What do you all do?

My heaters are almost all submersible so I just push them way down. Everything else stays on. However, for the most part I'm not heating tanks til it gets cold out.

I just off filters to keep them from running dry. Other than that i just change the water.

A vacuum you hook to the sink. Then suck water out and put back in with ease.

Pythons are great for vacuuming. I do something similiar to Reagan. I vacuum if needed with the python but I do the rest of the water change with a submersable aquarium pump and section of tubbing. The pump can drain the tank 5 times faster then a python can. I refill the tank with the python.

When refilling the tank w/ the Python, are you filling directly from the tap then adding conditioner?
Also, how do you collect pure aquarium water to rinse filters and decorations (as needed)?
I only have a simple siphon gravel cleaner, since my water changes are only 4-5 gallons for my small tank. Just curious of how water changes are done on larger tanks.

You add the amount of conditioner before starting the water from the tap. Add the conditioner to the tank and then start filling with fresh tap water. Have a 5 gallon bucket handy for the rinsing. Collect some of the water from the python or dip it out with a smaller container into the bucket. Easy Peasy
