Was just wondering what you all fed your fish and how many times a day and through out the week. I am also interested in hearing what foods tou have mixed together to make your own blend and how it works for you and the fish.

All my fish eat new Life nlsfishfood.com/ read up on it on their page, I have nothing bad to say abou it. But when you go to buy some if you do, get it off ebay. much cheaper. I use the Grow formula ,and small regular cichlid formula for adults.

I only use NLS. I buy the regular 3mm cichlid formula and the jumbo fish formula by the bucket, and get the growth in the large can since I don't use as much of it. When you buy in bulk it is a lot cheaper and the buckets are airtight, which keeps it from going stale a little longer. I buy mine from Big Al's, just because I get so much stuff from there anyway.

Is that all you feed them is NLS. With my mbuna I feed them the Omega pellets, veggie flakes, dry brine shrimp, one other food I cant remember right now and once a week I put a piece of romain lettuce on a clip in the tank.

Yes, I feed NLS exclusively, nothing else except the occasional veggie.
I also only feed adult fish every day or every other day, and I feed my tropicals and fry twice a day. I was feeding my Fronts every day and they started looking fat so I had to cut back, they are hogs. ;D

NLS is the most well regarded of any food based on my research and from comments i read on other cichlid forums from those with lots of experience in the hobby.
if you look around online you can get the bulk sizes pretty cheap.
i mix it up a little with HBH veggie flake for my mbuna, but for my haps/peacocks/tangs, its mostly all NLS.

It's the quality of the ingredients...it's like any pet food. The low quality ones have lots of flour and fillers rather than proteins, spirulina, etc.

I should sell him my extra male, except he probably wouldn't give me anything and then turn around and sell him for $150 like you said...meanwhile he's sitting in a tiny tank forever. The fronts really like the jumbo fish formula...it took them and my big SA cichlids awhile to get used to those pellets because they float...but now they come up to the surface and don't mind. It annoys me a little that the bigger pellets don't sink, though.

Im sure NLS is great cause everyone uses it, but what makes it so good have you been to the web site? I can tell you what i like about it. 1. the pellets are slow sinking 2. the pellets come in all sizes for all types/sizes of fish 3. After 2 month using NLS i noticed a huge color differance in my Adult wild fish. 4. it has Garlic extract ,and other stuff to provent diseases like ICH. it help fish have a better slime coat so even if you had ich in your tank it would have a hard time getting on you fish. 5. the grow formula seems to be doing really well also growing out my fish, and their color is amazing. I stay away from flake food because it can cause bloat.
