Ok so as I type this I just spent 30 minutes trying to get my overflow to stop maing the swooshing noise it is always doing...I have tried everything...even tried putting some poret foam in there to slow it down but nothing works....So eff it...I am going to purchase an FX5 in the next 10 mnutes unless someone can convince me otherwise. I plan to move the 405 from my 55 and put it on there along with the AC110 I have to keep me from any spikes while the FX5 is getting some cycling done. I will probably purchase another AC110 for my 55 to go along with the 306 I have for mechanical on the 55. Does this sound like a bad idea? If not I will sell the sump and overflow with pump alot cheaper.

I can get an FX5 and an AC70 for the 55, plus I already have some media and poret foam...It would only cost me $330 from Petsolutions and it usually gets here in a day.

sounds like the return pump is to strong. the stronger the return the faster and harder water will dump into the overflow.

Have you considered a ball valve in line right after the pump to adjust the flow rate. Out of curiosity how many gph is the pump rated for?

976gph and the overflow is rated at 1200gph. I am just going with and fx5,405,and ac110 on it....its in my living room so I need it quiet. $150 is a steal to anyone that wants it. The sump goes for over $300 and the pump goes for $110.

I agree the price is very good. I am currently building my own fluidized bed filter or I would be interested myself. Ill ask some of my saltwater friends and see if anyone is looking

It sounds like your tank is drilled at the bottom (reef ready tank). If yes, look into installing "Durso Stand Pipes" - guarantee the noise will just go away!

Please explain your exact setup - someone should be able to recommend a remedy.

Eshopps WD300C wet/dry filter rated for 300gal with a Eshopps 1200 gph overflow. Aquaticlife 976gph return pump. But I have already ordered the FX5 and another AC110 so its going on the market
