I'm not sure about keeping him in a spindle cover but if I decided to do that I think I'd punch some holes in it to try to get water flow. Just not so many that it would sink I guess. How does he look to you? Any marks on him? Is he swollen anywhere? Has he pooped?

If anyone thinks I'm off on this pls say so, but I'm suspecting bloat. Get the fish out of the tank. It's contageous in some way. If you have a 10 or a 5 put it in there, and get some Clout and treat the tank.

I don't recommend a bucket for a treatment tank, Buy a 10 gallon tank for that purpose. You will need a filter (that has been in your main tank so the filter is cycled) and heater. Treatment for 2 days IMO will not cure the fish. I would do at least a week and do at least 50% water changes daily and replace the meds that were taken out by the water change. Being in a bucket will most likely stress the fish even more. Joe

Metro comes in a full-strength powder. General Cure has a weak amount of metro in it. But it also has a parasite killer. It's definitely better than nothing and API are good products. However if this fish has bloat it'll take more than the cure time for velvet or hole in the head. It's about as serious a condition as a cichlid can get. So you probably won't be stopping at that point. Keep at it and do the water changes 30-50% is better because this stuff kills everything in the water that the fish use. Changing the water puts back the oxygen the nutrients the bacteria--everything that the medication strips out. Joe's a seasoned veteran at this. He's helped me through a couple of difficult situations I've come to trust him completely. He wont' steer you wrong. I hope this little guy makes it ok. I hate this stuff!

If you have a quarantine tank I will give you enough clout to get you until you can get more Metro. Just don't put it in your main tank unless you don't care if everything gets stained. The API should keep things from getting worse- but not strong enough to cure them if its bloat.

Hikari Metro Plus-3.5oz or Seachem Metronidazole 5 Grams(I would get 4 of them at that price)/ Joe's not getting crazy, he is giving his experience that the box is wrong, and I agree with that. If you do what the box says unless it is a very mild disease your fish will die. With bloat you must treat very strong, very fast. When I get the pure metro I do a double the recommended dose for 5 full days, even if they seem ok after day 2. The trick with the double dose is to add meds slowly. If not you will still have fish die and then you'll have to start all over with treatment. The API has maybe 5% metro in it. I would get a quarantine tank, get clout from me, then treat the rest of your tank with the metro once it gets in if anything else looks sick. I hope this helps and good luck.
