Hey all, just wondering where you've found the best place to get a wide selection of quality aquatic plants is. I'm in murfreesboro, and fed up with all the options in town, so I don't mind driving.
If there is nothing great around, I'd be interested also in knowing which mail-order places You've tried and enjoyed.

The Aquatic Critter has a few good selections.
You can also collect them from natural creeks, but there is always a chance of disease, or foreign things being transferred to your tank that may put your inhabitants at risk.
I have ordered most of mine from off Aquabid, several various routine users I have come to trust.
Also, we have members here that might share a few trimmings if you are specific of what you are looking for. I have several I can share, and would be happy to bring you a few clippings @ our next swap/meet and you could just give a small donation to the club for them.
There might even be a few for sale then too.
Hope this helps.
Rick

The following posts are from another thread within our forum from a while back. A good source and may be worth looking into again. I have not been there in quite a while now.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I went to my local fish store here in Bellevue, and the guy said he only carries a handful of plants but to look up and go to the Fairview aquarium plant nursery.
He said its one of the largest in the US. I found something called Green and Hagstrom online but it seems like a pond plant place.
Anyone know what he is talking about?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You know, the same plants that live in aquariums are the ones that are in ponds. So it likely is.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello all ! I am very familiar with this business/location you all are referencing to. It is indeed called Green and Hagstrom and is indeed located in Fairview. It is on Fernvale Rd. near the end furthest from Fairview near Old Harding Rd.. Owned and operated by a husband/wife team who are just great folk ! I can give much better directions for anyone that would like to know.---At their Fairview location they raise mostly water garden fish and plants and primarily sell them via mail order all over the world. There are a lot of greenhouses there for this purpose. Unfortunatly, last I was aware, they are closed up there in the winter months, and only open from sometime in May til about the end of October. They use to sell retail from that location, but have now opened a retail site on Hillsboro Rd. in Grassland, which is open year round as far as I know.--This site in Grassland is right down the street from the Grassland Grocery Market and ajoins a rock and mulch yard. Quite easy to find and listed in the phone book too.--The owners and I have been friends for years and I can say they are just great folks and anyone would enjoy dealing with them.--They are the primary suppliers of the local H.D. and Lowe's and many of the LFS's also, when it comes to the plants you buy to use in your ponds or tanks. Give them a call or go to Grassland to see them. You won't be disappointed. Lots to choose from for sure. If I can supply any more info. about them or provide any info. about how to find them, just let me know via this thread or the forum and I will be happy to oblige. Happy fishing Rick (aka--ree123)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No, it really does exist. Been around about 20 years now. If you live close to Grassland you should drop by to see them. If you need directions to Grassland let me know as I am currently working in that area for a while. Their store location is right down the street from me. Glad to help out any way I can.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, they have regular goldfish, sarosa comets, shubunkins, fancy orandas and other tri-tail or split tail goldfish, and several varitites of Koi. At least that is what all they used to carry, as of last year. They also have bullfrog tadpoles and a variety of the gambusi there also. There are lots of living creatures there that survive our winters here that you might find enjoyable. They also have many, many, many, varieties of pond plants and some are usable in our aquariums too. I know I have many of these surviving in my back yard to enjoy every year in my pond. And plants in my aquariums too. --- I stand to be corrected, but I believe the Grassland location is open year round. Give them a call. As far as I know, the location in Fairview is closed all winter without an appointment ahead of time. Not sure if they are open to the public up there (Fairview) at all anymore or not, but can't hurt to ask.

I have googled them tonight. look up www.GreeneandHagstrom.com. It appears they have summer hours of 9-5 Mon. thru Sat. and still sell from Fairview and Grassland, and have added another retail location in Goodletsville.

That looks like a cool place. We have a pond store here but they are pretty expensive. I think most of their business must come from selling landscaping supplies.

It is a very nice place and it is amazing what all they have when you get to walking around in all their greenhouses.

I was up in PA visiting my parents over the summer and went fishing at a pond that was just swamped with anacharis. I tried to bring some back but it didnt make it. With how much people charge online for it you could make a fortune out of that one small pond. Ive been looking around here with not much luck.

If not a local retailer or the greenhouse company listed above, log onto Aquabid and go to the plant section. There are often individaul folks there that list a lot of nice Aq. & pond plants for sale. Of course there is shipping involved, but no taxes.
