I never thought to silicone another piece of glass to it. That totally makes sense though. HAHA! The 55 I just bought has a chip right on the corner of it and it makes me really nervous. I've filled it up and it's sitting in my garage with no leaks but it still makes me nervous. I might take a picture of it and let you guys take a look and let me know what you all think.

Chips are usually OK. A leak generally starts when the seam on the inside starts going bad. The outside seams are just insurance. We had a chip on our 180g tank that did cause a tiny leak and I just put a small bead of silicone on the outside and that fixed it. I wouldn't worry too much if it doesn't leak.

OK cool. That helps. I just needed some reassurance.

Yea, it's rounded and just looks to be something hit the tank. I might put a little silicone on there just to make me feel better.

Alright, well maybe I'll just leave it alone and watch it carefully the next few days. It's in my garage so if it springs a leak, no harm no foul. I don't have any fish it in anyways.

Wow, I keep resisting the urge to buy one of those 40gal tanks... $40 is cheap, until you add glass lids... and lighting... and filtration... and a heater... and a stand.... lol

nah not really use one of jons Filters made form the foam ,and you can buy light for almost nothing now. the glass lids are not always cheap.
might as well get the 55gal!

To answer the question about this tank...
It held for 2 years. Has small drip now. I wasnt trying to make it look good, nor did i care if it leaked. I was really peed off that my new tank cracked, i had a tube of silicone and i emptied the tube on the back and smeared it in. I was one step away from chunking it out of my garage and into the street.
Out of 6 tanks 3 cracked within a week of purchase.
